Hot chocolate week: Black Forest Hot chocolate sundae
We all know about the black forest hot chocolate served at a particular chain of coffee shops which is undoubtedly delicious. With that being said, I love the flavour combo so much I decided to create this beverage recipe not only from my love for black forest but, from the hot chocolate "freakshake" I experienced at Soyo Kosher café in Golders Green, which was utter indulgence personified.
Now I already have the Monin Black forest syrup from previous Christmas
However, while casually browsing my local TK Maxx (TJ Maxx if your American), I found Black forest gateaux spread by Bramble
I immediately picked it up and bought it. I previously used the brand's Passionfruit curd which didn't disappoint in a previous recipe post so I knew I was going to get a quality product.
If like me you love the flavour of black forest gateaux, try this recipe and let me know how it goes. Modifications can be done to your own taste (for example using milk instead of dark chocolate)and comment how the recipe went for you.
Black Forest Hot Chocolate Sundae
Ingredients
100-250ml Milk (cow or nut works with both), depends of mug size
2tbsp of cocoa powder
4 chunks of chocolate
1-2 tbsp of sugar (you may not need this if using milk chocolate)
1tbsp of malt powder
Brownie pieces
Black forest gateaux spread (if you don't have this use cherry preserve of tin cherries)
Marshmallows
Twirl pieces
Black forest syrup
Method
Place milk into pan on stove with cocoa powder, chocolate chunks, malt powder and sugar. Mix and watch so all the solid ingredients in pan dissolve in milk
Once hot chocolate liquid comes to the boil with solids completely dissolved simmer on a low fire.
While simmering, assemble you jar. I did brownie pieces then black forest spread then hot chocolate
Then place some more brownie pieces and black forest spread on top with the addition of twirl chocolate pieces and marshmallows
Then squeeze some canned whipped cream on top and add some more brownie pieces and twirl pieces (you can add more marshmallows also)
You can then drizzle some black forest syrup on top or you can add some to the hot chocolate itself
Once all this is done enjoy and indulge (I was greedy and didn't share naturally)
