Vegan Orange Chocolate cake
I have been trying to be a bit more conscious about what I am eating. However, my sweet tooth is as stubborn as ever so, I decided to create this recipe to appease my sweet chocolate craving.
Ingredients
200g Self-raising flour
200g Demerara sugar
200ml Vegetable Oil
1 Orange
100g Cacao nibs
2 tbsp. Cacao powder
125ml Apple sauce
2-3 tbsp. of vanilla essence
1/2 tsp. almond essence
100 ml Water (or enough to get a smooth "cake-like" consistency)
Method
Preheat oven at 150 degrees Celsius. Place the demerara sugar and vegetable oil into a bowl and whisk.
Add the apple sauce and flour of choice the sugar and oil mixture
Then, add the cacao nibs, cacao powder, orange zest, vanilla and almond zest to the mixture
Place cake mixture into a baking tin. I used a loaf tin but, you can choose whichever shape tin. I also created a vegan lemon and coconut cake recipe which I will be uploading soon.
Bake the cake for 40-50 minutes at 150 degrees Celsius.
I normally use a skewer to test whether the cake is done. If the skewer comes out with some wet cake mixture on it place cake back in the over for another 10-15 minutes.
To decorate my cake, I melted some dark chocolate and drizzled it over the top.
